PCB appoints Intikhab Alam as team manager

Pakistan Cricket Board has appointed former Test captain Intikhab Alam as the manager of the national team after a turbulent tour to England.
The decision was taken during a meeting that was held between PCB Chairman Ijaz Butt and Alam, board sources said, adding an announcement regarding this would be made soon.
Alam, who was the coach of Pakistan team until early this year, replaces Yawar Saeed who stepped down as manager after the controversial England tour, which saw a dismal performance by the team and spot-fixing allegation against three players - Salman Butt, Mohammad Aamer and Mohammad Asif.
Butt and Alam are known to be close friends and this could have been the reason why the chairman preferred him over new faces, sources said.
Earlier, Alam became coach October 2008 and helped the Pakistan Team to win T-20 World Cup in England, but after a shambolic tour to Australia early this year he was replaced by Waqar Younis.
Currently, he is the head of Pakistan's National Cricket Academy.
